To lose fat, you need to increase your metabolism. Common sense, right? But what is the MOST effective way to stimulate your metabolism so that it'll burn the most fat for you in the least amount of time?

When you perform high-intensity interval workouts, your adrenal glands will produce water-soluble hormones called catecholamines which circulate through your body. Instead of full conversion of free fatty acids into energy (ATP — Adenosine-5'-triphosphate), your cells probably convert only 30% into energy. And out of this 30% converted energy, instead of burning up all, your cells only manage to burn 1/2 of the converted energy for use only.

Putting Easy Veggie Meal Plans into Practice...

Oh, you might find the breakfast and dinner meals easy to deal with but lunch may become an issue since you work a 9-to-5 job and cannot prepare the meals immediately before lunch. How to tackle this problem?

Easy. Just make extra food during dinner for your following day's lunch so you can take it in "to-go" containers the next day. But will it lose its nutritional value when you prepare the meal the evening before? Honestly, it does lose some but not much if you preserve the food well (Kardena will show you how in her Easy Veggie Meal Plans system).

Here's what I do — sometimes I make extra food during breakfast for my lunch. Other times I pack extra during dinner for following day's lunch. Few occasions I actually got lazy and decided to whip up 3 - 5 meals at one go. You may take about 1 hour or so doing that, but you end up saving more time in the next couple of days where you simply open your meal box and the meal is ready instantaneously. The choice is yours.

How about times when you're always on the go? Here are some useful prep tips offered by Kardena:

  1. Buy a lunch box and cooler pack for traveling. A lunch box / cooler large enough to fit a day's worth of food in it, this is what I did while going to school full time and working full time.
  2. Prepare ahead of time, like on Sunday. Make 3 - 4 dishes that you can bake, steam, chop, boil, etc. and get it all done in 1 - 2 hours. Like a food factory in your kitchen. Then you have food for 3 - 4 days. Put all your meals for the day in containers in the morning and off you go.
  3. Invest in your health on Sunday and reap the rewards during your hectic week. Use the food plan for recipe ideas and the right portions, very important. I did put a lot of variety in the meals, but you can make several recipes and make larger portions of the recipes so it makes 2 - 3 meals per dish. If you do this, you won't be able to stay exactly with the meal options I suggest on every day but that's o.k. Just repeat meals since you made larger portions of them. Leftovers are cool! Saves time, money and your waistline.

Bringing your own food saves you in places where vegetarian foods are not so commonly heard, let alone found. No more endurance over hunger or worse, getting desperate and reaching for any food in sight.

Unlike others, I'm not going to hide the potential problems you may face with the meal plan. Nothing is perfect.

Quite a number of feedbacks gathered from people all over the world that make me feel I should spontaneously let you know what you should expect, especially when you're living outside US / Canada.

Look, as Kardena is an American, all ingredients in her recipes are common, cheap and easy for her to obtain in US. But some people from India, Norway, UK, etc find certain ingredients too expensive or hard to find in their local stores. For example:

"I live in Norway and protein powder is extremely expensive so I'd rather not have to buy it often and 'alternative' products are very, very hard to find. Even tofu is not easily found in my local stores, not even my local health food store carries these products." ~ Madeleine, Norway

"I live in the UK, and have just downloaded your 90-day male veggie meal plans - you mention using Stevia quite a bit, but as far as i know, this is unavailable in the UK." ~ Howard, UK

"I have just brought your program and I live in India. One of my greatest problem is the non-availability of ingredients. The reasons I decided to try your program is because its vegetarian making ingredients easier to buy. However, there is still stuff like Spelt pasta and its likes I wont be able to find here." ~ Ramana, India

In fact, the meal plan is flexible enough for you to substitute some ingredients you can't find in where you live. For instance, if you don't have protein powder, don't use it. Simply increase the amount of other protein-rich foods found in the recipe. So, not to worry about not getting enough proteins.

Same goes for stevia nectar, which Kardena suggests adding it to flavor the dish. But if you don't want to leave out the sweet taste, like me (I can't find stevia nectar either — I live in Singapore), you can use pure maple syrup or agave nectar or other natural sweeteners you can find in your local stores (but I don't use honey since it's food for the bees).

For Your Info: Stevia carries zero calories and tastes 300 times sweeter than normal table sugar. So, not only you won't heap on excess calories easily with stevia, but you can use much lesser amount and it'll provide sufficient sweetness to your food. Just 1 regular bottle can probably last you for 2 years and it saves you money in the long run. These are the reasons why Kardena favors stevia over other natural sweeteners.

Though agave carries 56 calories per tbsp, relatively higher than normal table sugar at 50 calories per tbsp, agave is much sweeter, so much lesser can be used. You end up taking in lower calories. For other natural sweeteners, you just have to be careful with the dosage to avoid adding unnecessary calories.

Verdict: Choose stevia nectar where possible. Agave as the second option. Others as last option.

As for that spelt pasta issue, it is no doubt a great high protein, nutrient-rich alternative to white flour pasta, but if you don't have it available you do not even need to have the pasta. It is just a different form to eat grains. Do you have spelt grain or other high powered grain options like kamut, quinoa, amaranth? These are other options that make a nutritious grain option for any meal.

See? You can swap the ingredients to match what your local stores have.
